Garage Floor Mat & Oil Absorbent Mat

A plastic garage floor mat keeps oil off the concrete and on top of the mat, right where your boot finds it. The Magic Carpet® Garage Floor Mat takes the opposite approach. Oil, coolant, and melted slush get pulled into an absorbent core and spread out, so the surface you walk on is not a puddle and the concrete underneath stays clean.

Absorbent garage mat vs. containment mat

Containment mats are built to hold a lot of liquid in one place under a parked car. They do that job. What they do not do is dry, and once there is oil on the surface it stays there until you wipe it. For the work you actually do on the floor, an oil change, a brake job, a small engine repair, an absorbent mat is more useful. The drip goes into the mat, the surface stays workable, and cleanup is hose it off and hang it up.

The Magic Carpet® is dense needlepunched polyester with a patented pass-through wicking core. It absorbs about 4.5 times its dry weight and holds about 75% of what it takes in. It is strong and puncture-resistant, so dropped sockets, jack stands, and creeper wheels do not tear it.

Garage floor mat sizes

Use Magic Carpet® size Dimensions
Under a drain pan or oil filter REG or SM 11.75 x 18 in or 15.75 x 21.25 in
Small engine work, generators, mowers MD 16.25 x 27 in
Under the front of the car for an oil change LG or XL 19.75 x 33 in or 25 x 38.75 in
Full work zone, motorcycle, ATV XXL 26.75 x 44.75 in

For a wider area, lay two or three mats edge to edge. They stay flat and do not curl at the corners.

Where it goes in the garage

  • Oil changesUnder the drain pan and the filter, where the drips always miss.
  • Oil absorbent matUnder a car that marks its spot, so the stain is on the mat and not the slab.
  • Brake and coolant jobsBrake clean and coolant soak in instead of spreading.
  • Small enginesMowers, snow blowers, and anything with a fuel line.
  • Motorcycle and ATVA parking mat that catches the drip and cushions the kneeling.
  • Winter entryMelted slush and road salt from boots and tires.

Care

Hose it off or hand wash with degreaser, then hang it to air dry. For heavy oil, blot first, then wash.

Garage floor mat questions

Will oil soak through to the concrete?

The mat spreads liquid across its core rather than driving it straight down. For a small drip it stays in the mat. For a large spill, blot the surface and lift the mat to let the floor air out.

Can I drive on it?

It is a work mat, not a parking mat for daily driving. Rolling a motorcycle or lawn tractor onto it is fine.

How do I get oil out of it?

Blot the surface, hand wash with a degreaser, hose it off, and hang it to air dry. Heavy stains may leave a mark but the mat keeps working.
